The Hon. W. L. Martin, Minister of Agriculture, returned to Wellington yesterday from Wanganui, after opening the Christmas carnival there.
Bishop Holland and Mrs. Holland will leave tomorrow by motor on a tour of the North Island, and will be away from Wellington all January.' Mr. Andrew Murie, of Messrs. Murie and Company, Ltd., is leaving for England by the Ruahine today on a business trip. He is accompanied by Mrs. Murie. Mr. Herbert G. Whyte, a popular and efficient officer of the Wanganui Court staff for the past thirteen years, has been promoted to the Court staff at Wellington and begins his new duties early next month. Last week members of the Police Force combined with the Court staff in bidding Mr. Whyte farewell, and expressing appreciation of his many acts of kindness, and wishing him every success and happiness in the Capital City. Mr. W. S. Jones, Registrar of the Supreme Court, spoke of the zeal and ability of Mr. Whyte, and referred to the happy associationshe had made while in the office. He presented the guest with a leather, attache case for himself and a handbag for Mrs. Whyte. , • . .
Mr. A. E. Little, overseer of the Bills and Gazette Room, Government Printing Office, who is retiring on superannuation after 38 years' continuous service, was the recipient of a cheque from the Overseers' Association The Government Printer (Mr. G. H. Loney), in making the presentation,' remarked that Mr. Little was the. one remaining link between the old office, which was situated on the Hotel Cecil corner, nearest Parliament Buildings, and the present office. Mr. Little had worked. as an apprentice there 51 years ago. Mr. J. May, superintending overseer, expressed his thanks'for the valuable assistance and co-operation he had received from the recipient. Another presentation of a travelling rug was made by the typographical operative staff To both these "presentations Mr. Little feelingly replied.

Dr. Kveton, Consul-General in Aus^ tralia for Czechoslovakia, will arrive in Wellington next Monday by the Awatea, and will stay at the Hotel St George.
