HEAVY EARTHQUAKE

CASUALTIES IN JAPAN

(Received December 28, 10.10 a.m.) TOKIO, December 27. An earthquake shook the island of Nijima. One person was killed and two are missing; ten were injured, and 500 houses were damaged. Experts here state that the shock was one of the strongest ever recorded in Japan and that if it had been centred on the mainland the damage would have been immense.
