MONICA OPENING

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 27. The broadsiding season opened at Monica Park on Saturday. The two Australian riders, Melhuish and Duggan, gave disappointing displays. In the Roscoe Handicap (open), of one mile, Melhuish was third in his heat, and Duggan won his heat, but neither survived the semi-final. An experts' points race, in which S. Rhodes (Christchurch) met the Australians, was won easily by Rhodes, Melhuish being second, time, lmin 21 4-ssec. Another experts' points race was won by Duggan, Dumpletott (Christchurch) being second, and Melhuish -third; time, lmin 25 4-ssec. A third experts' points race was won by Melhuish. Duggan and Forbes did not finish.
