RELIGIOUS THOUGHT
A thorough analysis of one of the most critical periods in English history, namely,' that from the accession of James I to the Convention bf 'the Long Parliament, is given in "The Development of Religious Toleration in England," by Dr. W. K. Jordan (George Allen and Uriwin, Ltd.). In this work no important element in the thought of the period has been neglected. The study is based upon a thorough grasp' of contemporary materials and the subject is treated with' objectivity and dispassion. The work is broadly conceived, and the -roots of modern liberalism and tolerance are examined and established. Its appearance, at a time when the principles of 'liberalism and moderation,- so long held as axiomatic; are under attack from so many quarters, is of very great significance. .-,--,- "Concerning Progressive Revelation," by Vivian Phelips, is a little book published by Watts and Co.* which will be found very helpful by students of comparative religion. • -■-. ■.
