JEWS TO PALESTINE

ILLICIT IMMIGRATION

OFFICIAL'S CONFESSION

(Received December 1, 3 p.m.) JERUSALEM, November 30. There was a dramatic quarter of an hour session of the Palestine Royal Commission when Earl Peel, the chairman, virtually accused the Jewish Agency of conniving at large-scale illicit immigration of Jews. Dr. Shertok, chief of,the department of the agency controlling immigration, admitted that Jews had entered outside the quota, and that the agency took no steps to deport' them. Earl Peel pointed out that the agencyhad high responsibilities to aid the authorities in enforcing the law, at which, apparently, it was winking. ; Dr. Shertok said that the Government had not asked the agency to provide information concerning illicit immigrants, and it was decided, after re-' peated discussions, to •do nothing regarding the matter except to issuu warnings. He added that a Jew would never give away another in such circumstances.
