SOCIAL AFTERNOON
The Lyall Bay-Kilbirnie branch of the League of Mothers held their annual social afternoon recently. The president (Mrs. R. W. B. Young) welcomed all visitors, especially mentioning the representatives, from Hataitai, Melrose, Hutt, Wellington South. Mrs. R. Blenkinsop (who was acting hostess on behalf of the members who were entertaining the committee) took the chair. The platform had been tastefully decorated by the members of the committee and a very excellent programme arranged. The following contributed: The branch choir sang two glees; a pianoforte solo was given by. Miss Dorothy Robson; songs by Miss Myra Sawyer and Miss Beatrice Douglas; recitations by Mrs. Poynton; a "playette" entitled "Auntie Doleful" was acted by Mesdames Wickens, McLeod, Meiklejohn, and Haines. All the performers generously responded to encores. Before afternoon tea was served Mrs. Blenkinsop,. on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Young and Mrs. H. Q. Bruce (president and secretary respectively) with a crystal vase each, as a mark Of appreciation for their service to the branch. Mrs. Young .suitably replied on -behalf "of herself and' Mrs. Bruce; thanking the members for their generous gift. An excellent afternoon tea was provided and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Mrs. Blenkinsop moved a vote of thanks to the entertainers, whose items were appreciated by all present. This concluded a Very happy ending) to the monthly meetings for.this year.
