PETONE BEACH
IMPROVING THE FORESHORE
The Petone Borough Council discussed last evening the report of the beach beautifying committee on the beach plan. The councillors mostly favoured the proposal that there should be a central pavilion and also shelters at McEwan Park and the west end, although Councillor D. M. Dickson said he greatly doubted whether a central pavilion would produce the revenue expected. He advocated four or five pavilions being placed along the beach. The report of the beach beautifying committee was as follows: — "Consideration was given to the question of adhering to the original beach plan with a central bathing pavilion, or as an alternative, providing smaller pavilions at different points upon the beach. The council is recommended to confirm its decision to build a central bathing pavilion with provision for bathing facilities at the McEwan Park j and the west end, and that arrangements be made to also make a charge for the two latter facilities. The council is recommended to build the new pavilion on solid ground instead of on reclaimed land. The council is recommended to take immediate steps to place the beach loan proposal before the ratepayers." j
The report was adopted
