EXPORT OF BUTTER
ALUMINIUM FOIL WRAPPINGS
Regulations issued under the Primary Products Marketing Act passed during the recent session of Parliament prohibit the export of butter from New Zealand in the quarter-inch Saranac box after February 1 next, unless the butter is wrapped in aluminium foil. This action has been taken by the. authorities in view of complaints from London concerning mould growth on butter arriving there in Saranac boxes.
At the present time there is a deductirfn of.3d a box for butter packed in the quarter-inch Saranac box. The Primary Products Marketing Department is authorised in the regulations to allow users of the Saranac box 13d a box, provided the butter is packed in aluminium foil as required. The effect of this is that exporters using the Saranac boxes will lose lid per box as compared with those using the standard or sub-standard box.
Although the use of aluminium foil for wrapping butter packed in Saranuc boxes is mandatory ,after February 1, the department is prepared to pay immediately the extra ljd per box for butter in Saranac boxes packed in accordance with the regulations. The butter is to be wrapped in a wrapper comprising a strip of aluminium foil between two pieces of white parchment paper.
