SNOOKER FINAL
PROVINCIAL TITLE
The final game of the Wellington provincial amateur, snooker championship was decided last «night before, a large attendance. The final was decided on three wins in five games, E. W Petersen (Federal Club) winning three outright, each one, by a yarrow margin. The other finalist, D.J. Goodwin, the Taranaki champion, disclosed great ability and deadly potting in earlier, games, but was unsettled last night, and did not produce the form which earned him such decisive victories earlier in the championship. _ . In the first game Goodwin was in the lead until the last ball,,and Petersen, securing this, won by 5448. In the second game the pink and black were necessary for the victory, and Petersen eventually■ -. secured, these, winning by 53-48. In the third game two balls: again Were the deciding factors, Petersen winning by 54-40.' The keen competition made the play most interesting throughout. Fortune has a fair bearing on the result of many snooker games, and Goodwin was not at all favoured on last evening's play. E. W. Petersen has been competing in billiard championships for twenty-five years, and his experience helped him in a solid game in the final. The manager of Billiards, Ltd.,-pre-sented the Federal Club,'whom Petersen represents, with the silver Challenge Cup, which will be held as trophy till next year. Mr. Sweeney, president, accepted it. The champion received a gold medal, and Mr. Goodwin a cue and case. Mr. D. MacKenzie (Wellington Working Men's Club), who made the highest break (30) of the games, was the recipient of aTCue. The play:ers generally were congratulated on the standard of play shown, and, Mr. Duggan, the»Hawera mentor, was complimented on the play of his nominee and the sporting spirit shown in the Taranaki representation. :
