HUTT VALLEY AFFAIRS
The possibilities of a representative match for the colts were considered at this week's meeting of the Hutt Valley Cricket Association's^nanagement committee.
Mr. MacDonagh, agreeing with a suggestion by Mr. J. E. Boult that the Manawatu Association be approached for a fixture, said that he thought a scheme of coaching would be of benefit to the players likely to be chosen as, colts. He mentioned J Duffy and A. Tattersall as two members of the Todd Motors" Club who, he thought, would be pleased to give an hour or two of coaching each week. The chairman (Mr. C. G. Wrack) added that the services of Mr. L. T. Cobcroft might be secured for coaching the mostpromis-. ing boys in tho association. Mr. J. Wilson suggested that clubs be invited to forward to the association tile names of the outstanding players in their club who were not over 20 years of age.
Advice was received irom the Wairarapa Cricket Association that the request for a representative match for a colts' team had for the present been held over, it being too early to give a definite reply.
The YMCA. Club wrote strongly objecting to the attitude of the management committee in,relegating their team ;frbm B grade to C grade. The letter stated:—"(l) The YMC.A. had last season finished in sixth place on the championship ladder, being ahead of two teams which had still-retained their 3 grade status. (One of the teams had secured six championship points, less than V.M.C.A:) ■; (2) ■ The committee of the YMCA. was of the opinion that the V.M.C A. team was quite up to' B grade standard. (3), Although it was admitted that on several occasions the team took the field short, they were not an isolated case. (4) The club had always fulfilled its obligations." . ;
The chairman, summing up the position,, stated thai the case was similar to that of Petone in the' Wellington Association, but he thought that in the case of V.M.C.A. the committee had graded the teams to the best of its ability, and no. doubt the fact that V.M.C.A. had on-at least1 one occasion fielded only as many as! seven men weighed heavily with the committee in making its decision. Although the vote had gone against V.M.C.A., he thought th#t the. club should now prove its right to regain lost status by taking C grade honours. It was decided to inform the V.M.C.A. Club- that the committee's ruling was to stand, the reasons to be explained.
The Waiwhetu ■, School > Committee wrote stating that the terms for. the use of the Waiwhetu School wicket were not acceptable. ■„
Owing to a difference in the score sheets for the Bell Park v. Taita A grade match, it was decided to request the clubs concerned to forward the score books for inspection.
The secretary (Mr. H. N. Jones) reported that arrangements had been made for postponements to be announced from 2YA.
Acceptance of December 26 and 27 as the dates for the annual representative match with the Hutt Valley Association was received from the Wellington Mercantile League.
