NON-UNION LABOUR
GISBORNE WATERFRONT
HOLD-UP
(By Telegraph.—Bress 'Association.)
GISBORNE, This Day.
The handling of cargo at Gisborne was delayed yesterday and' today through non-union labour refusing to accept employment. The trouble has arisen through the Watersiders' Union enforcing the clause which enables ridn-unionists to be ; replaced by unionists after two hours' work, previous relaxation of the clause having enabled non-union labour to work for a full day without displacement.
: Non-members of the union contend it is unfair that they should be compelled to surrender their jobs, after only two hours' work, but the union maintains that its members are entitled to. the full benefits of the preference clause.
