OVERTURNED BY WAVE
LAUNCH ON N.S.W. MVER
TWELVE PERSONS DROWNED SYDNEY, October 19. Twelve persons were drowned on Sunday afternoon when a fierce wind squall capsized -a launch on the Hawkesbury River. A' party of 14 were in the boat, which was overturned by a huge wave. At dawn today two persons were found clinging to a rock in a semiconscious condition. This was the first indication of the tragedy. A subsequent search resulted in five bodies being found. Seven are still missing. The party was returning from a weekend at Patonga. The survivors, Norman Jones and Wolfe Kalenstein, were clinging weakly to the rocks, their strength exhausted, when rescued by an Italian fisherman. Jones said that the launch went over so quickly that it seemed that a giant had picked it up and capsized it. ; Kalenstein lost in the tragedy his wife, child, sister, and brother. The victims whose bodies have been recovered were Mrs. Clare Kalenstein, Rachel Kalenstein, Sally Klarnett, Mrs. Rachel Perm, Clifton Jones (owner of the launch), and Minnie Franks. Those missing are Cecil Perm (husband of Rachel Perm), Henry Kelenstein, Jack Kalenstein (an infant), Mrs. Neilson, and 'Hector and David Isenberg. Miss Klarnett and Henry Kalenstein were engaged to be married. Clifton Jones is an uncle of Norman Jones. The search is being continued.
