SURF LIFE-SAVING

WELLINGTON DISTRICT

The annual meeting of the Wellington District Surf Life-Saving Association was held last night, Mr." V. Allan presiding. •,. • , ........ ■ In moving the' adoption of the report, the chairman said that during the past year the executive had been working under the new constitution and, although the weather conditions had. been most unfavourable, they had done as well as possible.1 He congratulated the winning clubs on their victories in the national surf life-saving championships at Dunedin. This .season the championship would be held in Wellington and he hoped that the clubs would make the competitions the best ever held in New Zealand. . A remit forwarded by the Maranui Club that the Wahler Cup should be used for competition in a four-man championship event was adopted. At the suggestion of the Lyall Bay Club it was decided that the age limit for the surf bronze medallion test should be reduced. That club was also supported in the proposals that the Beltman's. Trophy conditions should be altered to allow for competition between teams of four beltment and that a new trophy should be obtained for the individual beltman's; championship. . It.was decided to hold the local championships at Lyall Bay, the date to be arranged by the executive committee. This beach would be particularly , suitable, it was stated, as the New Zealand championships would be held there shortly afterwards and all the gear could be kept in readiness. A letter was received from the New Zealand council reporting on the projected tour of an Australian life-saving team and submitting the itinerary for endorsement by the association. Opening dates were approved as follows:—Maranui Club, October, 31; Island Bay Club, December 5; Lyall Bay Club, November 7. . Officers were elected as follows:—• Patron, the Mayor, Mr. T: C. A.
