PROGRESS OF WORK

MAST BEING ERECTED

Providing the weather remains reasonably good so that the work will not be interfered with, the new 2YA broadcasting station at Titahi Bay should .be .in operation, before the end of the year. The station building and the houses for the staff are now almost complete,- and most of the transmitting and' other equipment is on the premises. ' • ' . The 700 ft mast, which will be the highest in the Southern Hemisphere, is now being erected; At the present time it is about 50 feet high. The anchorage for this mast consists of 15 blocks of' concrete, the three largest anchors measuring 9ft long by 9ft wide and Bft deep. To these steel guy ropes will be/attached.' Some of ; the transmitting 'gear and portions of the mast are at present on their way from Australia..

The present 2YA is. to become 2YC, and.after the new.station is in operation and has been thoroughly tested, the equipment will be transferred to Titahi Bay. The-present . station has been. in. use. for some years, and many of the parts will have to be renewed and remodelled. - The aerial for the auxiliary transmitter will be supported by another 100 ft mast and attached to the top of the mast for the main station.., ...,-•-.; ■ ,
