LABOUR ESTIMATE
CANDIDATES' PERFORMANCES
WASHINGTON, October 18.
The American Federation of Labour made public yesterday its four-yearly pre-election report to 33,000 local unions and 110 national and international unions adhering to its nonpartisan political body, advising them to "stand faithfully by our friends and elect them."
The report found that President Roosevelt's record from 1911, when he was a member of the New York State Senate, to his Presidential incumbency was favourable to the cause of organised Labour. As State Senator he favoured 27 Labour measures, as Governor 21, and as President 47. Mr. Landon's record as Governor of Kansas is not given, but his acceptance speech, in which he said he favoured Labour's right to organise without interference from any source, is quoted. Comparison'of the platforms of the two major parties showed that both omitted measures advocated by Labour, including a shorter work-day and compensation for technological unemployment. The twenty-eight years' record of the Vice-President, Mr. J. N. Garner, showed 11 votes favourable and 18 unfavourable to Labour. ■
