THE KING THANKED
CAMERA INSTEAD OF GUN
LONDON, October 17.
Mr Hamilton Fyfe, president of the League for the Prohibition of Cruel Sports, sent a letter to the King's secretary thanking his Majesty for substituting a camera for a gun during his visit to Balmoral. , His Majesty's courageous lead would powerfully stimulate the abandonment of sports involving the killing of wild animals.
The King and the Dukes of York and Gloucester spent eight hours deerstalking at Balmoral on September 19, and shot five stags. The bag could have been larger, a cable stated at the time, but the King threw his rifle aside, preferring to shoot stags which came within range with a cine-camera, and obtained many excellent photographs.
