WOBURN CLUB

In the best of weather conditions, surroundings, and greens, the Woburn Bowling Club opened its season. The president (Mr. W. H. Johnstone) said that this was the club's ninth season and the greens were never in better condition, which was entirely due to the credit of the greens committee and the' caretaker.

He regretted to record the great loss the club had sustained in the death of the late secretary (Mr. Mulholland), but the club was to be congratulated on the election of Mr. G-. J. Blackmore to the vacant position. They had hoped to have the presence of the Hon. W. and Mrs. Nash and Sir Thomas Wilford, the club's first patron, but this had not been possible. ( The past season had been most successful and during the winter members had kept fit by playing on covered rinks. Members had done excellent service also in assisting with the topdressing of the green.

The Mayor (Mr. J. W. Andrews), in declaring the greens open, congratulated the club on its officers and also upon the very fine condition of the greens and thd surroundings. The club had given excellent service to the borough in creating such a beauty spot out of virgin ground.

Mr. Gilbert Alexander presented Mrs. Andrews and Mesdames A. J. and W, D. Johnstone with bouquets.

Mrs. A. J. Jolinstone threw the first kitty and Mrs. W. D. Johnstone played the first bowl. , ■ , : .;'.-'

Afternoon tea was provided by the members of the Croquet Club.
