CENTRAL CLUB
The season of the Central Bowling Club (Petone) was opened before a good attendance.
The president .(Mr. D. Lauder). after welcoming the visitors, referred with regret to the deaths of the following members: —Messrs. E. Harris (past president), G. Warner, W.* H. Shardlow, and R. P. Lees.
The greens were in excellent condition, although too soft for play <-hat day, but he .congratultaed .the. green superintendent (Mr. W.'Urwih) and the greenkeeper (Mr. D. Sheppard). Mr. A. Clarlc had done excellent work in looking after the surroundings, he said. He thanked the ladies for their help. .-..■
Mr.. L. G. Lowry, M.P. for Otaki, extended good Wishes "from the Hon. W. Nash. .He mentioned .that he had lived in the Hutt Vailey for a number of years, and was interested in bowling, being a past president of the Otaki Club, but had been too busy to play much lately. The friendliest feeling existed between Otaki and the Petone clubs. Bowling added to the life of man, and was becoming increasingly popular throughout the Dominion.
Mrs. F. Hall, wife of the vice-pre-sident of the club, threw up tho jack, and Mr. T. Green, the oldest member of the club, played the first bowl against Mr. Lowry.
A new club flag was hoisted, and afternoon tea was served.
