He lay in behind the pace-making Rustem from the start, and when Rustem left the rail in the straight he challenged vigorously on the inner, and was going away nearly a length in front at the judge. Cricket has improved with each of his three races this season, but he might have been harder to beat on the opening day at Masterton last week it his usual pilot, S. Wilson, had not been required for Arrownilla. A three-year-old colt by Chief Ruler from the Grandcourt— -Very Hot mare Summertime he was secured at the yearling sales by Mr. W. Higgins for 200 guineas, and he is likely to be a good winning performer this season now that he has struck form. Should he also race well at Trentham he will probably be allowed to take his chance in the Derby next month.' . Rustem attempted to win all the way, and had he kept in on the fence he would probably have succeeded. Export, always on the leader's outer quarters, was a-good third. Patagonia made up ground in the'straight to be fourth, with Mohua, who was carried out when she ran up to Rustem and Export, in line fifth.
