FUNCTION AT QTAKI

Constable J'.. Bowman, who. has received notice of transfer from .Otaki to Marton, was, entertained by a "large gathering of friends at Otaki oh Tuesday night, the Deputy Mayor (Mr. D. Richards) presiding.; Apologies for absence were received from the Mayor (Mr. O'Rourke), who. was indisposed, and from Mr. L. G. Lowry, M.P. Mr. Richards referred "to the great popularity of Mr. Bowman, and regretted that the town and district was losing such a capable and popular officer.' Oh behalf-of the residents he presented Mr. Bowman with a rug, and Mrs. Bowman with a well-filled purse. The remarks of the Deputy Mayors were endorsed by Messrs. Mcßeth, Rockett, Nicolson, Roera, and'.Taipua, and Constable Shields. Mr. Bowman made an appreciative reply. • ' •
Eulogistic reference was also made to Constable Shields, who leaves in the near future' for Marton. < Cheers were given for, Mr; and, Mrs. Bowman and their little son. and' for Mr. Shields. •■■:■. ■ ' •■ ..--./ ;
