HELPING THE KINDERGARTEN

The Wellington Free Kindergarten Council, met on Monday, Mrs. J. A. Doctor presiding.

It was stated that the association has published a small but very choice collection of summer recipes, with a greeting card inset and envelope complete for Christmas posting.

Much appreciation was expressed by members of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gibbons's generous offer to open their grounds (Lower Hutt) on behalf of kindergarten as from yesterday until October 17 from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. daily. Just at present the gardens are very beautiful; in fact, there are few more lovely gardens in Wellington, and all interested in flowers and garden arrangement are urged to take advantage of this opportunity. A small charge will be made, and will go towards the funds of the association.

In view of the fact that the capitation grant has been restored to the kindergartens the, council decided unanimously to give back the 10 per cent, cut on all salaries.

Much gratification was expressed that the Education Department is again recognising kindergarten claims. Though the grant only meets a small proportion of the total running costs of the association, yet it is a definite means of income, and gives a sense of security in organising and planning the
