WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

) UPPER HUTT MEETING

A meeting of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute was held on Tuesday, when Mrs. Griffin (president) presided over a very large attendance of members. Many items of business were discussed in connection with the Southern Wellington Federation council meeting, which is to be held in Upper Hutt next month. The event of the afternoon was the visit of Mrs. Hume (president of the Southern Wellington Federation). She was heartily welcomed by all, and after a delightful address, was. presented with a bouquet of flowers.

The competitions resulted as follows:—Dried apricot jab, Mrs. Miller 1, Mrs. Heifford 2; puff case, Mrs. Hyslop 1, Mrs. S. Braid 2; thrift article, Mrs. Campbell 1, Mrsi Spencer 2; guessing competitions were won by Mrs. G. Benge and Mrs. Robinson.

The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames J. T. Hazelwood, Kitson, I. Judge, Lomas, Lynch, Max, Mellor, Morton, Murray, Manderson, Pelling, and Miss V. Keys.

Dancing, followed by the National Anthem, terminated an enjoyable after-, .noon.
