FERSEN GOES WELL
FINAL ELLERSLIE TRIALS

AUCKLAND, This Day.
The final gallops in connection with the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting were carried out in ideal conditions this morning, and some attractive trials were recorded. The course proper, with the poles 35ft out, was open, also.the No. 3 grass. Several of the youngsters worked on the, two-year-old track. The going was in firstclass order. The best efforts of the morning over a distance were.those of Fersen, Spiral, Red Manfred, and Mazir. Bowyang, Valspear, Crooning, Laughing "Lass, and Entail \ .also" impressed.
On the course proper Kilonsba opened proceedings by running" five furlongs in.lmin 6 4-ssec, the first two furlongs in 27sec. . , . ' ■
Jewelled Girdle and Roman Mascot ran seven furlongs in lmin 35 2-ssec, the first half-mile in 52 4-ssec, Jewelled Girdle being in front.
Waitaka was doing better than High Sar over five furlongs in lmin 7 l-ssec. Knight of Australia ran seven furlongs in lmin 34sec, Salva assisting him home over the last half-mile in 53sec.'
, Morning Sun went five furlongs in lmin 7 2-ssec. Over, a similar distance Valspear recorded lmin 5 4-ssec, the first two in 25 3-ssec, a good effort.
Laughing Lass and Entail, after running the first three furlongs in 39 4-ssec, got to the end of six furlongs in lmin 20sec, and there was little between them. Both worked well.
The stablemates Master Brierly and Lord Val did a mile in lmin 46 2-ssec, a good effort. Master Brierly was staying on nicely. Kelly sprinted six furlongs, the firsj, three in 40sec and the full distance in lmin 19 l-ssec. He was lightly weighted.
Tooley Street and Tybalt Vent seven furlongs in lmin 34sec. Caliente joined in at the six furlongs, this distance taking lmin 21sec. Tidewaiter and Cardsharper were too good. for Little Man over half a mile in 51 4-ssec.
After running the first two furlongs in 25 2-ssec, Gay Defence was doing his work nicely at the end of five furlongs in lmin 6 3-ssec.
Hoyal Appellant and. Horpwhenua traversed a round in 2min lOsec, the final six furlongs in lmin 22 l-ssec, a satisfactory performance. Tin' Lap was doing better than Haputale at the end of half a mile in 52sec.
Fersen, Spiral, and Mungatoon had a round in 2min 7 2-ssec, the final halfmile in 54 4-ssec. Spiral was a shade in front, but Fersen, who gave them the better of the start and was on the outside, worked in great style. After breakfast Mazir did a round in 2min 8 4-ssec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 34 2-ssec. Golden Blonde assisted him over the final six,, which took lmin 21 2-ssec. The Welcome Stakes candidate Bowyang reeled off half a mile in 51sec, the fastest of the morning over the distance. •. • ..
Karl and Red Manfred ran seven furlongs in lmin 33 2-ssec, the first half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Red Manfred, who impressed by his effort, could have improved on the time. British Nation and Privy Seal did half a mile in 53 l-ssec, finishing on terms. • • . ? Aiwai and Francis Drake, after taking 25 3-ssec for the first two furlongs, registered lmin 6 *-ssec for five. Francis Drake pleased, and ■Aiwai also hit . out well.
Marjory Daw beat Gar Vaals by several lengths- over half a mile in 52 2-ssec. Crooning, after beginning slowly, shaped well over five furlongs in lmin- 6sec. Fleetwind ran half a mile in 53 2-ssec.
The jumpers, Miss Pango (McDowell), Zane Grey (Baker), King Kod (Fergus), Invictus (L. Dulieu), Kaola (C. Thomson), and Vilma (Turvey) were companions in a round over the steeplechase . course. \ They all gave safe displays, and Miss Pango, who was out with Zane Grey in the lead at the finish, shaped best. King Rod and Invictus. were not far away, and their efforts were also satisfactory. Invictus fenced well. Mungacre was allotted useful pace work on the sand, and looks in .fine trim. H. Dulieu, with Royal Secret, and J. Brown, with Notium, arrived this morning.
