HERE AND THERE
Mothers'' Hctpers. Mrs. G. W. Guthrie presided at a meeting of the committee of the Mothers' Helpers yesterday afternoon. The secretary reported that the helpers had been exceptionally busy, ; every moment.,of time being occupied. The committee expressed regret that a number of applicants for help had had to be refused, not that they were not perfectly eligible for assistance, but on account of the demand for the services of the staff. It was felt that there is a serious shortage of domestic help which is becoming more and more apparent to the committee, so few girls entering domestic positions now. That the work can be made acceptable by consideration, stated hours, and adequate payment is demonstrated by the fact' that two of the staff of the Mothers' Helpers have been in their employ for ten years, and others for very considerable periods of time. The question of more help being needed was discussed by the committee.
