BONNY AZURE'S SCRATCHING

The main reason given for the scratching of Bonny Azure for the Bollard Memorial Handicap was the fact that she would have received a penalty for a mile and a quarter as well as for two miles in the event »f her winning the longer race. It was possibly held to be more to her advantage to contest the sprint event on Saturday. She did not go away smoothly in the Wellington Handicap, but soon settled down in third place. She had fallen back a couple of places at the: end of: half a mile, and appeared to meet trouble at the three . furlongs, where'she broke and fell right out qf the running. It was a disappointing effort for the place favourite, and she was apparently not happy on the track, which by this time was badly cut up in places.
