ON TRENTHAM TRACKS
FOXTON ASPIRANTS
VERDEN BACK IN WORK
' (By "Rangatiri."). '_/."'. , Trentham stables will have eight representatives at the .Foxton Meeting hext Saturday, and there is promise that a share of. the stake-money will be brought back to the centre. D.; McCauley is already at Foxton with Siegmund and Windward, ;ahd the 'other, six will be leaving, on Friday. The work thismOrning was more interesting, than instructive. Most of the galloping was done, on' the .plough track, which has just •been reopened, and times were much faster than they have been recently on the grass. , .
Sunee (Ij. Nesbitt), did a couple of rounds on the sand, sprinting home the last half-mile. He is"to take his place in- the Carnarvon Gold Cup field on Saturday/ but is likely to do better after a race or two, as he has been off the scene since Easter; He will probably be ridden by L. Faulkirier..
Nightlass (P. Burgess), and The Pawnbroker (Faulkiner) ran 'half a mile, with the mare a good length in front after covering the distance in 50sec. No rider has yet been-secured for Nightlass, who, will be reappearing after .an ; absence since.vearly1-. 'last autumn. Faulkiner will have the mount on The Pawnbroker, who is fairly forward and might finish in the money in Saturday's maiden event.
Liane (B. E. Edwards) , came down from the three furlongs in 38|sec, a useful effort, as her saddle slipped near the post. P. Burgess will ride her in Saturday's maiden, and he will also be on Davistock and Ngatirahiri.
Youssipof (D. W. Bush) was going along well slightly ahead of Southern Blood (R. Morris) after running half a mile on the two-year-old grass track, which was heavy, in just under 55sec, the last three.furlongs in 41sec. Youssipof gave a good exhibition -over the schooling hurdles with, -Dampier last Saturday, and he will make his -debut at.the, game at Foxton, ■ -.when -Bush will'ride him. ' -v ; ; ; ; Dampier (M. Reardon)was sent over ■five-, schooling fences; again, but-he rapped most of the obstacles and'generally it was npjt a particularly good display. He also, makes bis first.appearance in the role on Saturday^ when Reardon will be his pilot> •. ' •
Several horses with later engage^ ments were also sent alopg, and a useful showing was made by Gladium (P. Burgess), who came down from the three furlongs in: better than 36sec, one of the fastest gallops..; timed at -;the track since last autumn. >-, : : :~ v^tv, - Prostration (R. Smith), just beat the improving Silver Fox. (S. Wilson) over five furlongs, the last half-mile, in 51isec, but he was going along nicely and is coming to hand steadily. Fulojoy (Wilson) ran half a mile alone in Aliinga (S. R. Farland) and Cricket (F. Gough) did half a mile together m SUsec, with Cricket goipg ..the-.better. Alunga- is- a1 three^yearrold.chestnut gelding by Spear Dance from thei.Waij riki, r mare; Wee^ Rose,.th^ dam : ,also of Eager -Rose. ■ • - ':•■• ■ .-.- .-■■":j-. i : Might (Wilson) "and . Korero (Farland) ran seven, furlongs in lmin 33* sec, the last half-mile in 53sec. Verden (Burgess) was a good length ahead of Blue Bell (T: : Young) after three furlongs in 38sec. Verden has returned from a twelve months hpu, dayr looking-in great order, butiVj? doubtfuLif he will stan4,up to another preparations ~.
