FOR TOURISTS
SUPPLY OF LIQUOR
GRANTING OF HOUSE LICENCES
The question of the granting of house licences was raised in the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon, when the Hon. V. Ward asked whether the Government would consider the question of instituting a> method of granting house licences permitting liquor to be sold to guests only, and not to the outside public.
Mr. Ward said that such licences would assist in the development of New Zealand as a tourist resort, as tourists would then have the freedom they were accustomed to in other countries in obtaining spirituous liquors under proper control. If such control were {riven to Ihe management of tourir-t, hostels, it would remove an unsatisfactory condition of affairs.
"Ths matter has been noted for consideration by tb° Government when amendments to the Jicensinjr lav/s are und;r review," replisd the Leader of the Council (the Hon. M. Fagsn).
