TOLL OF THE TITANIC
Although the Titanic was sunk just over 24 years ago, the National Disasters' Relief Fund, during the year ended December 31 last, paid relief to 256 dependants of those who lost their. lives on the ill-fated ship. That number included 157 widows and ten'children., The Titanic Fund'is now administered by the national fund.
. The Public Trustee (Sir Ernest Fass) described the situation of the fund at the annual meeting, at which the Lord Mayor (Sir Percy Vincent) presided. at the Mansion House. The sum of £309,333 was available at the start of the year, he said, and grants during the 12 months amounted to £16,824.
Regarding the Empress of Ireland Relief Fund, there was £91,230 in hand, and grants amounting to £4678 were paid to 66 dependants. There was £22,999 in the Lusitania Fund, and £1048 had been granted to 13 dependants. ■ ■ '.
As regards the distribution of grants in connection with the Titanic; the bulk went to Southampton, followed by London, Liverpool, and Exeter, and as regards the Empress of Ireland to Liverpool, Canada, London, and Exeter. ' . .' .•■.-..
