CYCLIST'S INJURY

WANGANUI, This Day,

In the Supreme Court yesterday before Mr. Justice Ostler a jury awarded £.1300: general damages and £140 19s 8d special damages to Frank Dempster, aged ■ 36, married, who, when cycling in December last, was injured by. a motor-car owned by Mary Campbell Bridges.

Dempster, who is employed at the National: Woollen Mills, claimed £1500 ■general damages, plus the special damages, mentioned. v His right hand,' the' medical evidence disclosed, had suffered permanent partial disablement.

/Counsellor the defendant objected to the claim solely on the amount of damages. Negligence was admitted and also the special damages, but it was contended that the claim for gen.eral damages was inflated.
