CRIPPLED CHILDREN'S HOME

Spence, a delegate of the Auckland branch of the organisation, made a. strong, appeal to the | society to take such action as would I make possible "the immediate acceptI ance of the offer of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Wilson, of Auckland, of their magnificent property and- its equipment and staffing on a basis > which would be adequate and up-to-date in respect to workito be done for-crippled children in New Zealand."., He also moved a remit from Auckland that the Minister of.Education be invited to sponsor an ;appeal to the school children of New Zealand on behalf of the endowment fund being raised to make possible a crippled children's home at Takapuna, Auckland. - Mr. Spence. eulogised the generosity of Mr." and' Mrs- Wilson, and stated that a- fund - was being raised in the | Auckland district to provide for the I upkeep of the building as a crippled children's home. The property was worth £35,000, and it had been offered ' •to the society The Auckland branch ' was faced with the serious problem of ' not knowing whether they should accept it. The house would, with certain alterations, accommodate 27 patients. The, steps already taken to collect sufficient funds to maintain the property as a crippled children's home 'were outlined. Mr. G. J. Park, another Auckland delegate, supported the' remit. The meeting then .went into committee, to discuss the matter. Subsequently, the following resolution was adopted:-V'That this meeting "■) expresses its admiration of the efforts of the Auckland branch in raising such a large sum towards the endowment of the Wilson Home for crippled children; (2) recognises and regrets that the branch may not be able to accept the generous offer of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson unless .further funds be forthcoming to establish an endowment for the home."
