RUGBY FOOTBALL
WELLINGTON'S TEAM
TO PLAY HAWKE'S BAY
■ A provisional selection oC players for Wellington's Rugby football match with Hawkc's Bay next Saturday having been made previously, there is nothing very surprising about the iinal choice made by Mr. M. F. Nicholls, which is as follows:— Full-back: H. R. Pollock (Pclone). Three-quarters: L. Edwards iWellington), J. Fleming (.Eastbourne), A. G. Hansen (Hutt). Five-eighths: J. L. Griffiths (Ponckc), H. L. Baldwin (Wellington College Old Boys). Half-back: B. S. Sadler (Wellington College Old Boys). Forwards: R. R. Hull I Poneke), A. Lambourn (Pctone), F. C. Leahy (Marist Bros. Old Boys), J. Wells (Athletic), F. H. Frascr Smith (Wellington), M. W. Devine (Hutt), J. R. Lamasbn (Wellington College Old Boys), and A. H. Andrews (Hutt). Emergencies: Backs, W. Crisp (Eastbourne), J. Wareham (St. Patrick's College Old Boys), E. W. Tindill (Athletic) ; forwards,. M. Wright (Wellington College Old Boys), K. Guy (Athletic), C. Pringle (Poneke), and C. M. Ongley (Poneke). The players are to have their final practice at the Wellington Football Club's gymnasium tomorrow night. The team should lack nothing on the score of experience, and it has the players to show any amount of dash and enterprise. The forwards in the main are of the type to perform well in the loose. They are quite weighty and speedy, and there is the material for pacy rearguard action, with the players placed quite well in giving consideration to defensive measures. At the same time, some very fine material has been passed over. It is an exceptionally good side that can do without a match-winner like Tindill and without forwards of the calibre of Bowling and Guy. There are others —Pringle and Wales, to name two— who on form are definitely disputing the claims of players who have built up reputations on past performance. Among backs also to be considered is A. Wright, who did not come into the reckoning for this match on account of his not having the necessary residential qualification. The side, by and large, is a good one, with the players in the places to which they are best suited, except that Hansen is being tried on the wing, a move that is not altogether unexpected. The charges for admission to Saturday's match have been fixed at Is to the ground (schoolboys -6d) and Is .extra to the stand.
