BUILDING IN LONDON
Success has rewarded, the. enterprise of Mr. G. W. Lemmon in going to London early in May for the purpose of studying the latest deveolpments in building on the constructive side. The "Evening Post's" London correspondent advises that he has been appointed general foreman in charge of the erection of new blocks cf flats near St Pancras. The buildings, when completed in some 18 months' time, will be five storeys high, and will cover approximately two acres. They are replacing a number of houses condemned under the slum clearance scheme.
Mr. Lemmon, who took the opportunity of looking round London bsfore securing a position with Gee's, Limited, considers that the "everyday" building work in England is somewhat below the standard of that in New Zealand. Of the best class buildings in England, however, Mr. Lemmon has nothing but praise and admiration for the fine workmanship lavished upon such undertakings. He has found, when' -engaging labour, that there is a shortage of skilled tradesmen in London, but an abundance, of skilled labour.
