SUICIDE IN CELL
ALLEGED INTOXICATED
DRIVER
COLLISION SEQUEL

TE AWAMUTU, July 24.
Arrested this morning on a- charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a'motor vehicle, John Snowden strangled himself in. the police cells while awaiting an appearance in court. He was stated to have collided with a car driven by Mr Bishop, a farmer of the district, at an early hour *"his morning, causing considerable damage to the vehicle.
Snowden was accompanied by two other men and was returning from Hamilton to Te Kuiti. He was placed in the cells at Te Awamutu and was to have been charged under the Motor Vehicles Act this afternoon.
When the police looked in the ceil after lunch Snowden was dead, having tied a handkerchief in such a way as to cause strangulation. He was believed to come from Te Kuiti.
