PETONE V. SEATOUN
Considering the wretched playing conditions at Petonc, surprisingly good football was witnessed by a small crowd of spectators. • The teams were: Petone.—Body; Connell, Haines; M white, Diamond, Smith; J. White Patterson, Twainley, Verrall, Craig. Seatoun.—Parton; Grimstone, K. Yeoman; H. Salt, Gibson, J. Salt; C. Yeoman, Bedford, Wilson, McKenzie GendalL The game was fifteen minutes late m starting. The score should have been 1-all in the first five minutes, first Wilson and 'then Craig missing good opportunities. Petone, with short car-pal-passing movements, made several raids into ..Seatoun territory, whilst Seatoun, taking full advantage of the wind, played the long passing game. Body, Connell, and Haines made a very strong defence for Petone, and Patterson, and Craig were always a source of danger to Seatoun. About ten minutes before half-time Petone were unfortunate in losing the services of Diamond. The' persistent, efforts of Seatoun, were rewarded" when ■ McKerizie beat Body. The half-time score was: Seatoun 1,. Petone 0. Heavy," driving Nrain set in wheii the second speir commenced, and playing j.were'. extremely unpleasant. Fast up-and-down .play was the order for the first ten minutes, but neither goalie was .called upon. -McKe'nzie and Gendall were playing well together and were always prominent in the Seatqiin'attacks. A breakaway by Seatoun was stopped when Body made a,thrilling, dive for"the ball. Another attack by • Petone enabled Patterson to drive the ball past Parton for the equalisation. Play became a little too vigorous in. the closing stages, both sides being penalised for infringements Haines. was unlucky* when he fell on the ball in the penalty area; Gendall made no mistake with the penalty kick The final score was: Seatoun 2, Petone
