STIRLING BEATS HUGHES

DUNEDIN, July 19. strongly and confidently Don Stirling scored a decisive victory on points over Archie Hughes in a 15----rounds contest for the welterweight boxing championship of New Zealand last night. The bout, which was fast and willing, was witnessed by a good house. Stirling gave a much better showing than in his recent bout with Hughes, but the toughness and clever defensive work of the little Australian enabled him to make the contest full of interest. Stirling's weight was lOst lib, and Hughes 9st 6£lb.
