ICELAND'S BAD NAME

While parts of the United States were suffering temperatures of 20 and 30deg. below zero, and even colder recently, the people of Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, were shivering under tha almost unprecedented cold of 12 above zero. Such weather had not been experienced since 1918. In some inland districts, it was reported, the mercury has fallen as low as 2 above zero. The truth is that Iceland is not nearly as cold as its name implies. The mean temperature of the whole island in winter time is virtually the same as that of New York city, and Reykjavik's average is considerably warmer.
