"SHOWBOAT."

Regent Theatre Attraction.

Those who heard the "snow Boat" broadcast from 2YA on Sunday evening last will now appreciate just how fine a musical film this new Universal production is. Starting this Friday at the Regent, it should attract the attention of everyone who is interested in music and the finest acting to be seen on the screen. Stars like Paul Robeson, Irene Dunne, Allan Jones, Charles Winmnger, Helen Morgan, and Helen Westley are not to be seen every day 'Show Boat" has almost become an American institution; it has certainly gained the attention of the whole Eng-lish-speaking world. The latest film adheres faithfully to the original stage show by Ziegfeld. yet incorporates new music, and a modern flavour is imparted to it in a subtle manner. There ;s every prospect of this picture having long runs in New Zealand, if the overseas success is any indication. Containing three new songs by Hammer stein and Kern, it should have most people whistling the tunes before long. "Gallivantin' Around," "Ah Still Suits Me." and "I Have the Room Above Her" are new, while "Ol" Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat' Man," "You Are Love," and "Make Believe" are some of the old melodies which are'revived with great effect.
