JAPANESE VESSEL

SUSPECTED OF POACHING

SYDNEY, This Day.

A message from Noumea states that a Japanese vessel suspected of poaching was chased by the motor ketch. Caledonien near Yate for 90 minutes and was finally caught and. boarded. Six natives armed with tomahawks and spears were put aboard and the vessel was towed to Noumea, where it is detained by the Customs authorities. A fine will probably be imposed.

The Japanese vessel is of 30 tons and has a crew of 22 Japanese. Seventy Up-to-date charts of various Pacific Island? were found on board.
