BEAMISH BOY A BARGAIN
. Beamish Boy who had ' changed hands only a fortnight earlier, was a winner first up for his new owners Messrs. C. L. Moorhouse and R. M. Mine. The race was the City Handicap, 7 furlongs, at Victoria Park. Adelaide, and it carried a stake of £700. with £500 for the first horse. The price Messrs. Although Beamish Boy ha<f won several races, including the Adelaide Guineas, Port Adelaide Guineas, and South last spring for Mrs E E. Jolly, he had latterly disappointed that sportswoman and her husband. who bred the colt, and they therefore resolved to dispose of him. His failures included a second to Dextral jn the John Lewis Quality Stakes, a poor showing in the Fisher Handicap, and a third behind Donaster and Princess Harmony in the Baker Handicap.
After the running of the Baker Handicap event Mr. Jolly decided to submit Beamish Boy at auction on the iollowing day. There was a reserve of 500 guineas placed on the colt, and he was passed in. However, while the colt was in the float on his way back to G. R. Jesser's stables, Messrs. Moorhouse and Milne completed negotiations with Mr, Jolly for his purchase at 375 guineas, and subsequently he was- placed under the care of Martin Whelan. who had prepared Cape York, recent winner of the Adelaide Cup, for Messrs.
