WAIHOU MURDER

PROBLEM FOR POLICE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, This Day. The police are still puzzled by the murder of Mr. Ernest Severin Nelson near his home in Waihou Valley, on Tuesday evening, and realise that they are up against a difficult problem. The cartridge wads found near the body show that the gun used was a 12boro, which is a common type and provides little help. Many Maoris in the vicinity have an imperfect knowledge of English, which makes :iuestioning difficult and unprofitable. A Maori-speaking detective has now arrived. The funeral of Mr. Nelson took piace at Kawakawa yesterday, the esteem in which he was held being evidenced by a large gathering of Europeans and Maoris.
