DIPHTHERIA SUSPECTS

CONCEEN AT CIIRISTCHUKCH PRECAUTIONS TAKEN (By Telegraph—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

The number of diphtheria suspects among nurses and patients at the Christchurch Public Hospital is greater than is usual at the present time. Precautions have been taken and all cases positively affected have been removed to Bottle Lake Hospital.

It is understood that concern has been caused by the increases in the number of "positive" swabs. The actual extent of the disease will not be known, however, till tests are completed towards the end of the week. A number of suspects are carrying the disease in its non-virulent form, which means that the germ cannot be passed on. Some of the children are stated to have been transferred to a special 'ward, and it is believed that the nurses have been asked to curtail visits to friends.
