MORE RIDERS FOR OTAKI
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day,
Awapuni stables have not a big representation at Otaki, but the horses that have been entered were given useful tasks yesterday morning. The course proper was available and the going was in first-class order. The nags were out in the centre. Balbus (S. Anderson), who comes in on the secorid day at Otaki, had the Lackham —Seasprite four-year-old from Coyle's stable to carry him along over the first three of a five-furlong flutter and he completed in lmin 6 1-bsec. Lavish (Mansfield), who races on the first day at Otaki, ran five furlongs an lmin 6 l-ssec, doing her work attractively. W. J. Broughton has been engaged to pilot her. Morrath (Anderson) and Manawatu (W. E. Pine) were galloped seven furlongs, and the former set the pace. Manawatu was not permitted to loaf, and he finished solidly to beat Morratn by a couple of lengths." Morrath was allowed to drop out of her first-day engagement for Otaki on account of soreness, but she may be in on the second day. Manawatu's next engagements are at Hawke's Bay. Body line (Anderson), who is to contest the Huia Handicap at Otaki, was sprinted hall a mile, not being bustled to complete in 92 2-ssec. Anderson will have the Otaki ride.
