FIRST A DIVISION
SEATOUN'S GREAT CAME If any doubts remained as to the capabilities of Seatoun, the newlypromoted team in First A Division Football (and there could not have been many), they were completely dispelled by the manner in which the fastmoving Marist side was defeated by 3 goals to 1 in the best game on the Basin Reserve so far this season. Though one man, Gendall, gained all three Seatoun goals, it was not a oneman victory. There was not a passenger in the winning eleven, and the combination and ball control were all that could be expected on a day of rain and wind. Despite the difference in the scores the game was a close one all the way and its result was in doubt until Seatoun bagged their decisive goal in the final minute. Play shifted from end to end with remarkable rapidity, and most of the. interesting battles were fought out on the twenty-five lines, where forwards clashed with backs. Once again the game showed that Wellington football needs to improve its shooting. Both Seatoun and Marist . were only fair. Marist supporters will argue, and with some justification, that with luck their team would have done better. Territorially Marist were always a shade superior to their opponents, and generally their shooting was the same degree'better, but they lacked a snapshooter like Gendall. Their backs, too, covered the opposing forwards more closely than did Seatoun's. It Was a bright game in which both sides acquitted themselves well. The teams were:— Seatoun.—Parton; GrimstOne, K. Yeoman; H. Salt, Gibson, J. Salt; Wilson, Bedford, C. Yeoman, McKenzie, Gendall. Marist.—Turkinjgton; Nunns, Laracy; Hindle, Foley, Vaney; Leonard. Kershaw, R. Quirlte, Hatchard, M. Quirke. Referee; Mr. J. Dutican.
