SPEED TRIALS

IXION MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB

Conditions were favourable for the holding of the Ixion Motor-cycle Club's half-mile speed trials at Waikanae Beach on Sunday. Two runs, one in each direction, were held, and on these the mean time and mean speed of each competitor were calculated. The competitors were electrically timed.

The outstanding performances were registered by W. Bowe, on an Ariel, who put up the fastest time of the day with a mean speed of 91.837 miles per hour, and the fastest single run of 93.075 m.p.h., arid F. Critchley, who broke the existing 350 c.c. class record with a speed of 82.949 m.p.h. Critchley's speed is all the more creditable as his machine' was using ordinary petrol, whereas the previous record was established on a special racing fuel. ■ Results are as follows:—
