HOCKEY

SERVICES AS COACH

LETTER FROM INDIA

Interest in New Zealand hockey is not altogetheivlocal, for. an enthusiast in India has written to the Wellington Hockey Association offering his services as coach.

The letter, .which was read at a meeting of the association on Friday night, is as follows:—

"Having "relinquished my commission with, the Army of India Reserve of Officers and still, interested in sport, I beg to tender my application for a post, should such exist, as a coach in hockey, which game I find you are interested in. I have played the game for years, and among such players as Wells, Shaukat .Ali, Allen,; and Lenninger, whom'you have probably seen play. While in Calcutta I represented the Calcutta Rangers Club, which is one of the outstanding clubs in all sport. Should you not require a coach for your club, I wonder if it will be possible for you to.pass my application on to some of the leading colleges or public schools which require an instructor. Being an ex-Army officer, I would be useful in training lads in Army work and physical training, etc. I am 44 years of age, with very active [habits, and although married, my wife and family are in England, where they will always remain, as they are not [interested in the East."

It was decided to pass the letter on to the Manawatu Association, which, it was stated, had created a fund for the purpose of obtaining the services of an overseas coach.
