LATE MR. C. A. MARQUIS

IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL

More than 200 people formed a cortege nearly a mile long at the funeral yesterday of Mr. C. A. Marquis, of 14 Hautana Square, Lower Hutt, territory manager for Wellington for the Temperance and General Mutual Life Society, who died in Napier » on Friday following an operation for appendicitis. The Rev. H. E. K. Fry, of Lower Hutt, conducted the service at the mortuary chapel and at the graveside at Karori. The chief mourners were Mrs. C. A. Marquis (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Marquis (Palmerston North), Mrs. T. Quirk (Christchurch), and Mr. W. Allen (Christchurch), and the pallbearers Messrs. C. H. Hudsonj W. R. Allen, H. F. Griffiths, W. A. Simpson, P. M. Moran, T. Sharpies, L. J. Lewis, and,G. A. Rykers. ' Various organisations were represented, and the full staff of the Temperance ' and General Mutual Life Society attended.

Official representatives of the society were:—

L. Scatter (Wellington superintendents), and the following district superintendents: Messrs. J. J. Lynch (Masterton), D. McClymont (Wanganui), P. W. Bayford (Napier), J. Maffin (New Plymouth), T. Sharpies (Hastings), and P. M. Moran (Palmerston North). ' ' ■
