WELLINGTON IN LUCK

HEAVY RAIL TRAFFIC

Easter weather is sadly unreliable, but this year, so far, Wellington's weather has been delightful, and, though it is a long way to Monday, the prospects of continued pleasant conditions are good.

Train traffic to and from Wellington . has been particularly heavy, and practically every long-distance service in and out of Thorndon Station on Thursday ran to full capacity, particularly so the late trains on the Auckland, New Plymouth, and Napier lines. The Limited expresses have been fully booked for the full week. Seaside and other short-distance traffic also has been very brisk, and when the details are available it will, without much doubt, be found that last year's figures have been well eclipsed.

Boat traffic has been heavy, not only between the two islands, but between New Zealand and Australia, the Wanganella, for instance, sailing last Monday with 300 passengers. RECORD CAR EASTER. Long distance rail and steamer travelling is planned without much regard to the weather, but motor tripping is, or is not, according to sunshine or threatening skies, and this is a very busy Easter on the roads, probably an easy record, though figures cannot be produced to prove that general statement. Long-distance parties got away on Thursday evening or yesterday morning, but there are still cars . enough and parties enough to keep the drives about Wellington humming, and, with, all those cars on the road, enough again to makp parking difficulties' at seaside resorts.

There is any variety of spor:3 and other attractions for visitors and those who cannot get away from Wellington, several golf tournaments, bowling, a regatta at Paremata, and the Sea Scouts' regatta, the annual University tournament, including athletics at the Basin Reserve, cricket and late swimming, the beginning of the Rugby and Association football seasons, tennis, and house and friendly cricket. At the Easter Show the main attractions today are the horse-jumping contest and allied competitions. Picture houses, too, are doing good business.

Altogether the weather and the programme of sports meetings and other attractions are working out very well.
