PROGENY OF MANFRED
So far Australian-bred Manfred (Valais—Otford) has not been represented by a first-rater, and that apparently will be required to bring about a strong demand for his progeny. At a recent sale of yearlings held in Melbourne sixteen youngsters by this horse figured in the sale-ring and they were sold for 2182 guineas, the highest price for any of the collection being 260 guineas. Red Manfred, a son of Manfred who i was bred in Victoria, but reared in the Dominion, was bought as a yearling at Trentham. in 1932 for 200 guineas. He proved a bargain, for he captured prize-money in New Zealand to the amount of £4880, and, with the Great Northern Derby and Great Northern St. Leger included in his successes, he was an attractive advertisement. However, he still remains best of his sire's stock.
