CRASH INTO POLE

POLICE TAKE ACTION

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) ' , AUCKLAND, This Day. Seriously injured when a large motor-car, which he had allegedly converted to his own use, crashed into a telegraph pole on the Cliff Road at St. Helier's Bay yesterday afternoon, a man, who has not been definitely identified, is now an inmate of the Auckland Hospital. In turning to go down the hill the car got out of control, gathered speed, and crashed into, the pole. A woman and a' child nearby had a miraculous escape. The driver had a leg broken and received other injuries. An operation was performed last night and the man is still unconscious and in a serious condition. Today, under the name of William Morrison, the,'driver of the car was charged with intoxication while in charge of the vehicle, also with converting the car, the property of Northern Automobiles, Ltd., to his own use.

The. police said the man was in hospital, and they were not suro whether Morrison was his correct name. Several papers containing other names had been found on him. !

Mr. F..K. Hunt, S.M., adjourned the charges to April 30.
