DECREASE IN ARRESTS
The statistics issued by the Magistrate's Court covering its work during the first three months of this year show that there has been a decrease in most of the branches of the Court's work, particularly in arrest and summons cases. The figures for last quarter, with-those for the same period of 1935 in brackets, are as follows:— Arrest cards: Males 432 (450), females 27 (30); total, 459 (480). Summons cards: Males 958 (974), females 117 (126); total, 1075 (1100). Total cards: Males 1390 (1424), females 144 (156); total, 1534 (1580). Children's Court cards: Males 50 (123), females 6 (11); total, 56 (134). Plaints entered during quarter, 1544 (1706); amount sued for, £22,999 9s 9d (£29,001 10s 2d); cases disposed of, 1144 (1138); amount claimed, £14,990 3s 6d (£15,814 16s 7d); amount recovered, £13,842 0s 9d (£14,046 16s 6d). Sittings presided over by Stipendiary Magistrate: Civil, 62 (80); criminal, 139 (129). By Justices of the Peace: Civil, nil (nil); criminal, 40 (34). Civil.cases heard, 90 (132). Applications heard in court or chambers, 440 (424). Civil warrants issued, 235 (260). Executed by bailiff, 124 (124). Summonses and other processes served by bailiffs within one mile, 372 (372); outside one mile, 737 (687). Judgment summonses issued, 340 (256). Foreign processes received, 288 (264). Civil summonses served by registered letter, 39 (59).
